Questions People Ask

Plain answers to what readers ask us about the Journal and our furniture.

What is the Designatore Journal about?

The Journal is where Designatore shares plain-English guides on luxury furniture and interior design — how made-to-space furniture works, which materials last, room-by-room ideas, what things cost, and how to care for fine pieces. It is written by the team that designs and builds the furniture, led by Nidhi Patel.

What is made-to-space furniture?

Made-to-space furniture is built to fit your exact room, taste and colour palette, instead of being bought off a shelf. Designatore designs each piece for your space, shows it to you before building, then makes it by hand in India and ships it worldwide.

Is bespoke furniture worth the cost?

For a home you plan to keep, yes. Bespoke furniture fits your space to the inch, uses better wood and joinery, and lasts for decades — so the cost per year is often lower than replacing cheap furniture again and again.

How do I get a quote for a custom piece?

Send Designatore a photo of your space, a floor plan, or even a picture of one wall. The team designs the piece and shares the wood, colours and price in ₹ and $ before anything is built. You pay in steps as the piece is made.

Who writes these articles?

The articles come from the Designatore design and workshop team, led by founder and principal designer Nidhi Patel, who has furnished full homes and corporate spaces across India and abroad.

How often is the Journal updated?

New guides are added regularly across rooms, materials, trends, care and buying advice. Join the lookbook list to get each new guide, plus seasonal design ideas, by email.
