Questions Architects and Designers Ask Before They Send Drawings
Do you take FF&E packages for offices and large homes?
Yes, for two sectors. Designatore manufactures custom FF&E for corporate offices and workplaces, and for large private homes, plus the architects and interior designers who buy for clients in those two sectors. Every item is made to your schedule line and your dimensions, not picked from a catalogue. We do not take hotel or restaurant work.
What drawing files do you work from?
Designatore works from DWG, DXF, PDF, SKP, 3DM and STEP files. A DWG or DXF plan with elevations is best, because it holds real geometry we can measure. A PDF exported to a stated scale is a safe second. State your units — millimetres are the working unit in our factory. Our Design and Technical Development team turns your drawing into a shop drawing.
Do you prototype before a production run?
Yes. We build one sample first, in the real material and the real finish, so you and your client approve the piece itself rather than a render. Nothing goes into production until that sample is signed off. A change at prototype stage is easy. The same change after production has started is not.
Will you sign an NDA before we send drawings?
Yes. Designatore signs your NDA, or sends ours on request, at no charge and without slowing the project. When we build to your drawings, the drawings stay yours. We do not put your project in our portfolio without your sign-off, we do not approach your client behind you, and we do not reuse your detail on another job.
Who makes the furniture, and where?
Designatore makes the furniture itself, in its own 80,000 sq ft factory in India. Ten departments sit under one roof: design and technical development, material storage and processing, CNC, woodworking and joinery, veneering and finishing, painting and polishing, upholstery, quality control, assembly and packing, and research and development. More than 130 people work there.
How do you quote, and when do I get dates?
We set the dates with you at the drawing stage and put them in your written quote, rather than publish a band that cannot hold for every piece. Size, material and finish decide the time, so a number given before we know what we are building is a number we can miss. We quote per project, in writing, in rupees and dollars. Delivery inside mainland India is free.
