Custom furniture cost in India starts around ₹80,000 ($960) for a single made-to-order piece and can rise past ₹15 lakh ($18,000) for a large stone and wood centrepiece. The final price depends on size, wood, finish, stone and metal. You pay in simple stages, so the cost is never a shock.

There is no single sticker price for custom work. Every piece is different, because every room is different. But the price is not a mystery. Five things move the number up or down. Once you see them, you can read any quote with confidence.

What drives custom furniture cost?

Think of the price as a stack. You start with a base, then add for size, wood, finish, stone and metal. Each layer is a choice you make. A simple choice keeps the cost down. A rare choice lifts it. Here are the five drivers, in order of how much they usually move the price.

• Size. A bigger piece uses more material and more hours. A ten-seat dining table costs far more than a four-seat one.
• Wood. Common Indian hardwood is friendly on the budget. Rare burl and figured timber cost much more.
• Finish. A clean matt finish is quicker. Hand-polish, deep colour and many coats take longer and cost more.
• Stone. A marble or agate top adds real weight to the price. Rare stone and book-matched slabs add the most.
• Metal and detail. Brass inlay, fluting and carved edges are slow handwork. Each one adds to the total.

There is a sixth thing hiding inside the other five: hours. A carved edge is not a switch we flip. It is a person, at a bench, working slowly by hand. Here are honest ranges for made-to-order pieces in India. These are for real materials and real craft — solid wood, natural stone and hand finishing. They are not for thin board and machine spray. Your own quote may sit above or below, based on the five drivers above.

Custom furniture price per sq ft: when it applies

People often ask for a custom furniture price per sq ft. This measure works well for fitted units — wardrobes, kitchens and wall panelling — because they cover a set area. For these, the price in India runs from about ₹1,800 to ₹4,500 ($22–$54) per square foot. Wood, finish and hardware set where you land in that range.

But per-square-foot pricing does not fit free-standing pieces. A dining table, a bed or a lounge chair is priced as one whole piece. The work is in the joints, the legs, the top and the finish — not in flat area. So for these, ask for a full piece price, not a rate per foot.

You are not paying for wood alone. You are paying for a piece that fits only your home.

How material choices change your budget

Once size is set, material is the biggest lever you hold. This is good news. It means you can shape the price to your budget without giving up the look you love. Wood sets the base. A friendly Indian hardwood keeps a piece warm and strong for a fair price. Stone is the showpiece — and the price jump. A marble or agate top turns a plain table into a centrepiece, but natural stone is heavy, slow to cut and easy to waste. Why bespoke furniture cost is higher than the showroom

A showroom price looks smaller because the piece was made a thousand times over. The design is spread across all those units. Bespoke is the opposite. There is also the matter of what is inside. Cheap furniture often uses thin board with a printed skin. It looks fine for a year or two, then it sags and chips. How stage payments work

A big number feels lighter when it is split. You never pay the full amount at once for custom work. We use simple stage payments, tied to real progress. At each stage, you see the piece move forward before the next payment is due. Here is the usual flow.

1. Booking (about 20%). This starts the design. We measure your space, draw the piece and pick materials with you.
2. Making (about 50%). Once you approve the final design, we buy the wood and stone and begin building.
3. Before delivery (about 30%). The piece is finished and checked. You clear the balance, then we deliver and install.

The exact split can shift a little for very large jobs or rare stone that must be bought early. But the idea stays the same: your money moves in step with the work. Nothing is paid for a stage that has not happened.
