Brass Furniture and Metal Detail, Made by Hand

Brass is the line that holds a piece together. A drawn strip set into a wood front, a cast leg under a marble top, a thin band around a drawer — it is rarely the whole piece and it is almost always the thing that makes it look made rather than assembled. We cut, cast, plate and finish metal in the same building as the wood and the stone.

Brass inlay furniture in India, cut and set by hand

Brass inlay furniture is furniture with lines of solid brass set flush into the wood. We rout a channel, tap the strip in, level it with the surface, and polish it back. Done well you cannot feel the joint with a fingertip. Done badly it lifts within a year.

Every line on our pieces is set by hand, corner by corner. A mitred corner where two lines meet is the hardest part and the first thing to look at if you are judging a piece.

Finishes: brushed, antique, PVD

Brushed brass has a fine directional grain and a warm, matt look. Antique brass is darkened in the recesses so the raised parts read brighter — it suits carved and traditional work. Polished brass is a mirror, and it shows everything.

PVD is a hard coating applied in a vacuum chamber. It costs more and it does not tarnish, wear off at the handles or need polishing — worth it on anything that gets touched every day.

Solid brass, plated steel, and telling them apart

Solid brass is heavy, warm to the touch, and it will patinate. Plated steel is lighter, colder, and a magnet will stick to it. Neither is wrong: a slim table leg carrying a stone top is often better in steel and stronger for it.

What matters is that you are told which is which. We put it in the specification, on every piece.

Keeping brass looking right

Uncoated brass darkens. Many people want that — a patinated handle after five years looks better than a new one. If you want it bright, a soft cloth and a proper brass polish two or three times a year is enough.

Never use an abrasive pad or a household spray on a lacquered or PVD finish: the coating is what is doing the work, and once it is scratched through the metal under it goes patchy.

Questions People Ask About Brass & Metal

Plain answers, from the workshop floor.

Is your brass solid or plated?

Both, depending on the job, and the specification always says which. Solid brass for inlay lines, cast legs and anything with weight in the hand. Plated steel where a slim section has to carry a heavy stone top and solid brass would flex. A magnet tells them apart in a second.

Will brass tarnish?

Uncoated brass darkens over time, and many people prefer it that way. If you want it to stay bright, ask for a lacquered or PVD finish — PVD is a hard vacuum coating that does not tarnish, wear at the handles or need polishing.

What is brass inlay?

A channel routed into wood or stone with a strip of brass tapped into it, finished flush with the surface. It is set by hand, one length at a time, and the mitred corners where two lines meet are the test of whether it was done well.

Can you match brass to fittings I already have?

Send a photograph in daylight, or post us a spare handle if you have one. We match tone and finish — brushed, antique or polished — so new furniture sits with the ironmongery already in the room.

Is delivery free?

Yes, and it stays free — no end date, no minimum. We deliver your piece to your door anywhere in mainland India, crate, freight, transit cover, e-way bill and GST included. Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep go by sea at actual cost; outside India is quoted per port.

Is there a minimum order for free delivery?

No. There is no minimum, no remote-area fee and no fuel surcharge. One bedside table travels on the same free terms as a twelve-piece bedroom, to Mumbai or to Leh, and the crate is built around your finished piece.
