The body is finished in deep navy lacquer built up in layers and polished between each coat until it reflects the room, and the front is stepped into a geometric profile so a single colour still throws shadow lines instead of reading as a flat slab. It sits on a slim brushed gold base, kept deliberately thin, so a solid dark body appears to hover. The warm metal against the cool navy is the whole reason it looks the way it does. It shows fingerprints more than a matte finish, and it wants a soft cloth rather than an abrasive one. It is a hard-wearing multi-coat lacquer, so ordinary use is fine — but it is not a surface to drag things across.
Can I have this in another colour?
Yes. Navy is what we photographed. Any lacquer colour works, and we spray a real sample for you to see in your own light before we finish the piece.
